Resistant dextrin is a water-soluble dietary fiber that can help improve the nutritional structure of food and has multiple health benefits. It has a unique molecular structure that makes it difficult for human digestive enzymes to break it down, so it can smoothly pass through the small intestine and reach the large intestine to exert its function.

I. What is resistant dextrin?

    1. Source and properties: Resistant dextrin is made from edible starch such as corn and tapioca, processed through acid heat or enzymatic hydrolysis processes. The finished product is a white to light yellow powder with a slight sweetness (about one tenth of sucrose), easily soluble in water, and has a low solution viscosity.

    2. Regulatory status: In China, it is approved as a regular food in 2012 and can be legally added to various foods.

    II. Friendly starch derivatives.

    1. Friendly to food processing.

    Resistant dextrin hardly changes the original state of the food.

    1.1 Not affecting flavor: The sweetness is only one tenth that of sucrose, and it has no peculiar smell, so it will not overshadow the main dish.

    1.2 Non destructive texture: The viscosity of the aqueous solution is extremely low, and even with high concentrations added, it will not make the beverage cloudy or the food sticky, perfectly preserving the refreshing taste.

    1.3 Stable properties: heat-resistant, acid resistant, and freeze resistant, resistant dextrin can exist stably whether it is high-temperature baking, acidic beverages, or frozen desserts.

    2. Friendly to gut microbiota.

    Resistant dextrin is an exclusive “nutrient” for beneficial bacteria in the gut, such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli.

    2.1 It can be accurately utilized by beneficial bacteria to promote their proliferation.

    2.2 At the same time, it is basically not utilized by harmful bacteria, indirectly inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria and helping to maintain the balance of intestinal microbiota.

    3. Friendly to metabolic indicators.

    Resistant dextrin can help the body process energy more smoothly.

    3.1 Stabilize blood sugar: It acts as a “buffer zone” that slows down the absorption of glucose in the intestine, thereby helping to stabilize postprandial blood sugar peaks.

    3.2 Assist in controlling lipid: It can interfere with the absorption of cholesterol and fat, and long-term consumption can help reduce blood lipids.

    III. Resistant dextrins are widely used in food field.

    Thanks to its excellent processing characteristics and health benefits, resistant dextrin is widely used in various foods.

    1. Beverages: Resistant dextrin is often added to common “fiber+” drinks and sugar free tea drinks to supplement dietary fiber, without affecting the clarity and taste of the product.

    2. Dairy products: Resistant dextrin is commonly used in yogurt and milk, which not only strengthens dietary fiber but also improves taste. Some studies even suggest that it can enhance the water holding capacity of yogurt.

    3. Baked goods: In bread and cakes, it can improve product color, increase moisture retention, and extend shelf life.

    4. Meal substitute and functional food: because resistant dextrin can enhance satiety and control blood sugar, it is also a common ingredient in meal substitute biscuits, powders and special food for diabetics.
